As you know, an operating system is a group of programs that help you operate your computer. It could be considered the "government" of your computer's internal society, telling the other programs what they may do and providing services they need. A computer might contain more than one operating system, but only one operating system may be "in charge" at any moment in time.

Your task is to write a 2-3 page report on the following:

• Research which services are typically provided by an operating system and which services are only sometimes provided by an operatng system.

• Discuss how these expectations of operating systems services have changed over time.

• Provide information on any controvercial or legal battles that have involved what are consdered to be typical operating system services.

• Be sure to provide references for all of your assertions. You must have at least three references and all references must be from recognizable and reputable sources. All refererences may be from electronic sources or may be from a mixture of electronic and paper sources.

Task: Submit your team's report electronically at the BEGINNING of Monday's class.

NOTES: You will be given additional instructions on electronic submission of your report at the beginning of Monday's class, but you will not be given time to work on the assignment Monday, so come to class Monday with the assignment completed and typed.
