Reflections
For the robot demos at the Madison County Public LibraryObjectives
- Reflect about the possible benefits of demoing robots to children
This assignment must be completed individually.
This assignment is designed to get us thinking about the purposes of our library outreach and also how we want to approach the experience.
Create a new Microsoft Word or text document named YourUserName-A13.
- Watch, read, reflect on and summarize the main points of the video/text Educate to Innovate.
- Read, reflect on and summarize the main points of Robots and Other Wonders Lure American Kids to Science.
- Reach, reflect on and summarize the key points of The Science of Interest: Cognitive Research To Engage Students and Foster Real Learning. Note that this article is longer than the above, so it requires more skill to capture the main ideas. (However, such skills are really important in College and in life!)
In this second part, I would like you to apply the above to our upcoming outreach. Please answer each of the following in one or more paragraphs:
- We can probably all recall any childhood experiences which seemed small or unimportant to others, but which had a positive impact on our life. Thinking of these, describe how you think we could design our robot outreach to most positively effect children who attend.
- Tuesday, December 3rd 3:30-4:30
- Saturday, December 7th 1:30-2:30
- Do you have any UNAVOIDABLE conflicts with the above two dates? If so, give details of the conflict and why is it UNAVOIDABLE. (A class is a good example of an unavoidable conflict. Labor is NOT an example of an unavoidable conflict because College policies require that labor accommodate all academic activities.)
- Do you have a PREFERENCE for one of these dates? If so, please explain which date you prefer and why. We will really try to accommodate all preferences.
- I may try to arrange a third opportunity at the Child Development Lab (perhaps during the day on Reading Day) if there is sufficient interest. Please comment on this idea.
