CSC 186 Digital Meda
Introduction to web pages and css
Objectives
- Learn about the structure of webpages.
This assignment is designed to be done individually, though you
are encouraged to talk and to consult with one another.
In class:
Design your own personal website
- Listen to a mini lecture about web pages and
their structure.
- Learn about complete web authoring systems and
WYSIWYG web page editing.
- Install KompoZer
and/or DreamWeaver (from the College network).
- Choose a website template based on css.
I recommend choosing one from http://www.freecsstemplates.org/.
Try to choose one which says it is fully standards compliant.
- Make a second copy of the template for you to modify while saving
the original. Modify the template. Make sure your name
appears prominantly on it.
- Change the name of the folder which contains your website to yourusername.
- Add information about yourself
to your website.
Create at least two pages, index.html and another which is
appropriately named. Delete sections of the template that don't
make sense and that you don't want.
- Edit until you are reasonably happy
with your website
When you are finished, zip the folder which contains
your website and upload the sipped folder to the Moodle site.
Optional work if you can get a
web host:
- If you can get an account I recommend http://www.000webhost.com/.
If you have your own website elsewhere use that.
- Learn about ftp. Install FileZilla.
- If you have secured a hosting account, upload your website using FileZilla.
- Email your website url and your username to yourself. Use a
separate email to email your password to yourself if you think you
might forget it. This is a
backup precaution so you don't forget this information!
