CSC 186 Digital Meda
Using a template for Sparkplug web pages and editing photos
Objectives
- Use a webpage template to complete complete sparkplug case studies
- Edit photos for use in the webpage
In class:
Design your own personal website
This assignment is designed to be done individually, though you
are encouraged to talk and to consult with one another.
The following are the text of the sparkplug case stories:
The following are images of the sparkplugs (You will need to right-click and save to download):
You will be working on web pages for two of the Sparkplugs. Use
the two you were assigned to work during the inclass audio work in
GP3. If you were absent from class that day, you must ask Dr.
Pearce which sparkplugs to work with (just randomly choosing them will
earn significantly reduced credit).
- Download the sparkplug template from:
sparkplug-template.zip
- Right-click on the folder and unzip it.
- Rename the FOLDER yourusername-PA14
- Open each of the rename-me-#.html
to see what the layout will look like for each sparkplug. Rename
these pages in the given templated format. Do not attempt to
change the formatting or appearance of the page. (We can make those
decisions as a class, because we want a coherent look for the page.)
- Change the filename to CS-countynameCoST.html following the exact spelling from the txt files above.
- Download the txt files for your two assigned stories.
- Add the text of each story to the appropriate file into the appropriate places on the page.
- Make the html title of the page read: "Brushy Fork Case Study: county and state name"
- For the author, add "youractualname, a student in CSC186 Digital Media, Berea College, Spring 2011"
- Download the zipped images for your two assigned stories.
- Choose the best of the images of each of your two assigned sparkplugs. Crop and resize the image to be no
more than 250 px in width. Place this edited image into the
images folder BEFORE inserting the image into your web page.
Change the name of the image to SparkplugName.jpg (with no spaces). AFTER moving the edited image to the images folder, insert the image
into the appropriate webpage. Put the Sparkplug's actual name in
the "alt" tag, which will make it readable to disabled users who are
using reader programs. If you cannot find a good image, you may
extract jpgs from the video.
- Do not insert your podcasts or video into the page because these will make the folder size too large to upload into Moodle.
- Zip the folder yourusername-PA14 (by right-clicking and choosing Send to then zip) and upload the zipped folder to Moodle
When you are finished, zip the folder which contains all these pages and upload the zipped folder to the Moodle site.
