Editing Sound Files

Objectives

The most well-respected audio editing tool is actually Open Source and free!  It is called Audacity.  Go to CNET http://download.cnet.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10058117.html and download and install this software.

Another really great piece of software is DVDVideoSoft Free Studio which can be used to pull audio from downloaded video like from Brushy Fork or from YouTube.com and has many other useful features as well.  Go to CNET

and download and install this software.

Your task today is to learn to use this software by making a "mash-up" of audio which is of interest to you.
  1. As mentioned above, your task today is to use audio editing software on audio materials such as music which are of interest to you.
  2. Your final product should be 20-30 minutes long and should be comprised of multiple audio clips which you mash together.  These audio clips can consist of music clips, speeches, sound bytes, etc. collected from your own personal library or online sources.
  3. Here is a useful tutorial on how to combine audio clips with audacity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcT-R4Vu5-I
  4. You will want to be certain not to use copywrited material since you will be posting on the web. Original music is certainly fine.  Also, any open source music from http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=music# is also fine.
  5. Exercise your Google-prowess to find out how to embed various types of audio files.
  6. Use this knowledge to embed the audio file you created into either your web site or blog.
When you are finished, copy and paste the link to the page containing the embedded audio file to the appopriate location in Moodle.
